QUESTIONS WE GET
ASKED MOST
Field care, timelines, pricing and shipping — the essentials before you drop off your animal or hide.
JUST GIVE US A CALL
Good field care makes all the difference to the finished mount. If you’re standing over an animal and not sure what to do — ring us. We’ll talk you through it.
HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY ANIMAL IN THE FIELD?
Keep the animal as cool and dry as possible. Never bag a warm hide in plastic — use breathable game bags or clean cotton canvas. Get the head and cape chilled or frozen quickly, and bring it to our studio as soon as possible after your hunt. Ring us if you need immediate cape cutting advice from the field.
HOW LONG DOES TAXIDERMY TAKE?
Turnaround times typically range between 6 to 10 months depending on the species, the type of mount (shoulder mount, skull mount, or full body), and tanning schedules. We prioritize craftsmanship over speed, ensuring all hides are properly tanned and forms anatomically sculpted to last generations.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Pricing depends on animal species, mount style (European skull, shoulder mount, pedestal, or life-size mount), and custom habitat bases. European skull mounts start from $280, standard deer shoulder mounts range from $1,250 to $1,850, and flat hide tanning starts from $180. Contact us with your trophy details for an itemised quote.
DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT?
Yes, we require a 50% deposit before commencing tanning and taxidermy prep work. The remaining 50% balance is due upon completion prior to studio collection or insured freight dispatch.
CAN I SEND HIDES FROM OUTSIDE THE REGION?
Yes, we accept frozen or properly salted capes from hunters and farmers all across New Zealand via overnight courier or refrigerated transport. Ring or email us beforehand so we can provide dispatch instructions and prepare for immediate intake.
DO YOU TAN SKINS FOR RUGS AND CLOTHING?
Yes, we operate a dedicated commercial-grade tanning facility on-site. We tan deer, tahr, chamois, sheepskins, cattle hides, and goat skins for flat display rugs, wall hangings, and supple garment leather using modern wet-tan and dry-tan formulations.
CAN YOU RESTORE AN OLD MOUNT?
Yes, we specialize in the restoration and conservation of vintage taxidermy. Services include deep cleaning, hide rehydration, crack and ear repair, seam re-stitching, recoloring faded fur, eye replacement, and remounting onto handcrafted hardwood shields.
ARE YOUR MATERIALS ETHICALLY SOURCED?
Yes, 100%. All trophies we process are legally harvested through licensed hunting, pest management, or sustainable farming in accordance with New Zealand Department of Conservation and MPI regulations. We do not accept protected wildlife without verified legal permits.
